The key to the success of any yard is its organisation. For this reason, at my yard I try to keep the tack room as clean and tidy as possible - just think about how off putting it is for a prospective buyer or investor to visit and see mouldy piles of tack heaped on the floor?! These are a few features of my tack room :-

• Every saddle and bridle must have its own stand
• Every saddle, bridle, and stand must be labled
• All tack must be cleaned after use
• All tack (whether it has been recently used or not) is to be taken apart and cleaned once a month
• All bits must be soaked after use
• All leather must be oiled twice a year

The tack room is also painted and totally cleaned out every 2 years. The walls are white to contrast with the saddles, and this also gives a look of cleanliness when it is washed regularly.
