Mares &Foals

My policy is to keep the mares in use and interested even if they are only used for breeding. My mares are competed regularly, and are seen as true members of the yard, not just foal producers as in some other yards. The mares will usuallyhave a few foals during their time in the yard, but not too many as this could make them bored with not being able to be worked. Another policy of ours is to take the mares to competitions so they become well known.

Most of our foals are brought on using the traing methods of Monty Roberts - the man who listens to horses. They become initiated into the full life of the yard at a young age, so they are calm and sensible when they are older. They also spend quite alot of time in a field by a road, so they become used to traffic. They don't however spend too long in this field, as we are very aware that the fumes probably aren't very pleasant! None of our young horses specialise in a discipline until they have a very firm grounding in dressage - and this seems to have good results, judging on this fine example of one of our offspring below!
